Believe it or not, we are already in the month of April! Crazy isn’t it? Four months ago, many people around the world made health and fitness goals and most of those goals are likely still attainable. Some people are a little behind and understandably so, but there are many other people who are having incredible success. Why the disparity? In my experience as a health and fitness coach, the difference between my successful clients and those who have some “ground to make up” in order to hit their goals is found in their daily habits. More specifically, creating DAILY goals or checklists to keep themselves accountable.
Now some of you are saying “I’m not a checklist person.” And that’s okay! Others may say “I just go with the flow.” And I understand that we are all wired differently! However, people do not stumble upon success, IT IS A PLANNED EVENT. Goal-setting is not only something we should do on December 31 every year with a cocktail in hand, it should be done every month, every week and even every day! Here’s why. Let’s say your goal in 2020 was to lose 60 lbs! In order to track your progress, you must be able to break that goal down into bite-sized pieces. 60 lbs is equal to 5 lbs per month. Therefore, each month your goal would be to lose 5 lbs and each week approximately 1.25 lbs. Now obviously you don’t need to weigh yourself every day and worry yourself if you only lost .1 lbs instead of .25 lbs every day. But the point is to break down your goals into bite-sized pieces to make it more attainable and more importantly, make your DAILY decisions that much more meaningful!
I am a huge believer in creating a daily checklist. Entrepreneur.com also thinks it’s a great idea! (https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.entrepreneur.com/amphtml/284783 ) Daily checklists allow me to thoroughly plan out my day, look at my schedule, and prioritize what I MUST do in order to consider that day a success. Then, I make sure to put those events earlier in the day. Not only does it give me more time to accomplish that goal, but it also allows me to focus on what is most important when I am fresh! And the biggest objectives typically require the most amount of energy.
I have created daily checklists since I can remember. From getting my degree at Florida State, to my time as an officer in the Marine Corps, to my current government acquisitions job and especially now with my health and nutrition business, I create daily checklists to keep me on track! If I don’t, I always feel like I am scrambling and unorganized. If you are used to creating checklists, then you know what I mean! But if you have never created daily goals and checklists, I recommend you do! It will keep you organized and keep you focused on what is most important in pursuit of your goal. Because success is a planned event, and if you didn’t succeed, it’s likely because you weren’t effective in your planning. So start a new daily habit and write out your goals every morning, or even the night before. I know that you will be happy with the results.
I hope this helps a few of you re-focus your attention on the goals you set out to accomplish just a few short months ago! Have a blessed week!
